Uber is developing from a single trip service to a complete trip. The company launched this new service, called UberTRIP, on November 16th, 2016 in Bali.
As an Uber consumer, I was glad to receive their invitation to attend the Uber Gathering with others Bloggers and Instagrammers on November 17th, 2016 at Zia Hotel Petitenget. I and Matt have been using Uber service since last year and it has been a really helpful application. Most of the time, I use it for going to the airport or a meeting place when the weather is unfriendly. But it never crossed my mind to explore Bali with Uber. I really could not put a number on the price that this service would cost. But Uber answer this with UberTRIP.
What is UberTRIP?
UberTRIP is an expanding service from Uber. The purpose is to give you the opportunity to get a personal driver who would be able to accompany you for a long(er) trip, and not only bringing you from a point A to a point B. The trip is limited in time from 5 to 10 hours, but you can theoretically go as far as you want and make as many stops as you decide.
What is the difference between UberX and UberTRIP?
UberX only takes you to a single destination (from a point A to a point B) while UberTRIP can bring you to as many destinations as you like. The pricing system between the two services is also slightly different. Take a look at the two pictures below (available on Uber website), to understand the differences between the two fare calculation systems.
UberTRIP does not have a base fare like it is the case on the UberX service.
The minimum fare is set at IDR 300.000 (about AU$ 30), which represents a five-hour trip based on the per-minute fare. For a longer trip, the fare is calculated based on time only. The price has been set at IDR 1.000 per minute (about AU$ 0.1).
Another difference from the UberX is that there is no cancellation fee applied, at the moment.
For the capacity, UberX can only accommodate 1-4 persons, but UberTRIP is able to take up to 6 passengers.
Who is my driver?
The UberTRIP drivers are like super drivers! La crème de la crème as my hubby would say in French. All the drivers selected for UberTRIP have been getting the best reviews from previous Uber consumers and are rated 4,5 stars or above. No broken GPS here and a lot of smiles for sure!
Where can I use UberTRIP?
For the moment, the service is only available in Bali. Uber drivers are very accessible in the south of Bali, tourist epicenter.
See below a fare estimation comparison if you want to visit the famous Aling-Aling Waterfalls!

You can see that for a trip from the Ngurah Rai airport to the Aling-Aling waterfalls, the price is actually more attractive with UberTRIP (compared to UberX) due to the different fare calculation system. Moreover, the driver can wait for you during your exploration, your last selfie in front of the waterfalls, or any other activity that you judge worthy! On the same principle, it can also bring you back to your hotel directly or stop for a dinner. No stress and very practical!
How to use UberTRIP?
Open Uber app on your smartphone
If you have the new version of Uber, type your destination in the “Where to?” box.
In a first page, the application will display UberMOTOR and UberX as the choices of transportation.
Now, if you swipe to the left…TADA!!… the new UberTRIP option appears, including the estimation fare. Then click “Request UberTRIP” button.
As usual, at the end of the trip, a total fare based on the trip duration will be calculated. You can choose to pay with cash or credit. You will then receive an electronic receipt in your e-mail inbox.
If you are still using the old application, select UberTRIP then set your pickup location and your first destination. Request your ride and explore the World! Or at least Bali!
If you do not have the Uber application yet on your phone, or you have never heard of it, then you are missing something. I invite you to download the app and you can get IDR 25,000 off of your first 3 rides by using this code: heras10ue
You can download the app from the link below
Voila voilu, I hope I clearly described the new service UberTRIP offered by Uber and that it will help you to discover all of Bali’s wonders! This new service looks to me as an interesting and accessible alternative for travelers who want to explore Bali at a reasonable cost. It can be catered to both travelers on a budget and travelers with higher standards and expectations.
