Sidemen, Selat and Tianyar may sounds unfamiliar to you. Perhaps you heard about Candidasa, Amed and Tulamben, right? Yes, those areas I mentioned earlier are located in the same region of Bali called Karangasem. Karangasem has so many hidden gems that need to get exposed. We were lucky enough to explore them from 24 to 27 September 2015.
This trip idea came when our friend, Florian, sent us an invitation to celebrate his birthday in Tianyar. I checked on google maps and search where on earth Tianyar is. It shows in the north part of Bali, between Tulamben and Singaraja. So I was thinking it is gonna be a tiring journey if we drive straight from Denpasar to Tianyar. Earlier on the month I read about Sidemen from here. Then I said to Matthieu how about we visited Sidemen first and then continue the next day to Tianyar. He agreed!
I checked some hotels in Sidemen and made some phone calls, but not lucky enough to have one room in our budget. When I checked on Tripadvisor, one name pop out very eye catchy for me, it is written Great Mountain Views Resort located in Selat. I open their web and it looks amazing! I sent the link to Matthieu, and he likes it as well. So I called them and asked if there is one room available on the 24th. He said he has the room with a great view but the price is not in our range, so I refused and just take the room on our budget. He replied kindly and said he will give the room with a view with the price I agreed. Happy!
We packed our bag and rode on the east coast. We stopped in Warung Kecil first to get lunch. From Denpasar, it is about one and half an hour to reach Great Mountain Views. When we arrived at the point where google maps app pin the location, apparently it is not correct. However, there is a red sign of Great Mountain Views on the east side of the road, so we just follow it. The arrow sign is good to direct us, but we are not sure how we could find it during the night because the sign only made from wood.
When we arrived at the hotel, they greet us friendly, and I was AMAZEBALLS to see the view! Unblocked view of Mount Agung and rice fields. Tranquil and peaceful! I love it.
After taking a rest, we walked around the hotel. Apparently, the area is very small. If we want to take a walk between the rice paddies, we have to take a tour from the hotel. Since we do not want to pay any tour so we decided to take our motor and ride along the village. I did not mention earlier that this hotel is not exactly in Sidemen. It is about 4 km north of Sidemen. The village name is Duda in area of Selat. Not much to see in Duda, so we ride to Sidemen and see what we can do next day there. I remember in the blog I read and one friend of mine had stayed in Sawah Indah Villa. So we check this place and find out their swimming pool is open for public if we order food there. We decide to have lunch and use their swimming pool before we continue to ride to Tianyar. It was the best decision to made. We enjoyed a lot the place and plan to come back with my family when they will visit us.
The next day, after lunch and chill in the pool we ride to Tianyar. The road is not always smooth as from Denpasar to Selat. There is some part not covered with asphalt, poor my ass! However, the view is awesome and no traffic. There was one point we entered in a jungle, and the weather was chill. Some fresh air to breath.
We arrived at the villa and Florian and the rest of #gangmelatigang were not there yet. The villa is on beachfront and quite big. We wait them on the beach and take a sunset moment just the two of us. The night has come so we decided to enter the villa that was not locked and put our bag. Then we ride to Safety Stop Restaurant in Tulamben where the meeting point for our dinner and wait them there. Just right when we arrive in the restaurant, #gangmelatigang arrives! We spent a big dinner there and headed back to the villa.
Two nights in the villa we spent just chill. I was the only girl there (I definitely miss the #gangmelatigang girls). Some boys did spearfishing but were not lucky enough to get any fish. Jonas went to a fisherman and bought tuna and mackerel. He cooked delicious enough make me still dreaming of the fish until now. After dinner, we chill in the garden. On the first night, Matthieu and I witnessed a shooting star, and we made a wish right away. I wish one thing that I am longing for sometimes. I hope it comes true soon. We thank The Preisler brothers for the wonderful birthday weekend and awesome togetherness.
